Vernon North Okanagan RCMP has released a sketch of a child-luring suspect with the hope that the public can help identify him.

Police received a report of a suspicious occurrence in the 4200 block of 35th Street, near Alexis Park Elementary School, in Vernon, around 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 9. Police say a man in a brown vehicle made several attempts to convince a child who was walking to school to get in his vehicle, even offering the child a gift.

The child refused and did not get in the vehicle, and the suspect fled the area when the child’s parent approached the vehicle.

“In support of our ongoing investigation, an RCMP forensic sketch artist has compiled a composite sketch of the suspect,” Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, said in a press release. “We are releasing the image to the public with the hope someone will either recognize this person or be able to provide us with information that will assist us in furthering our investigation.”

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man between 40- and 50-years-old with short facial hair, wearing light brown clothing and driving a small brown station wagon.

Anyone who has information about the incident or the identity of the suspect is urged to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file number 2023-7313.
