A Vernon company has been fined $2,500 for what WorkSafe BC calls a "high-risk violation."
The violation occurred while Kalco Contracting Ltd. was working on installing a fence at a residential complex. According to a WorkSafe BC penalty notice, the firm had dug post holes close to a gas line without getting a permit to dig from the utility.
Worksafe BC said Kalco also failed to contact BC One Call to find out the location of underground utility lines before beginning the work.
"The firm failed to ensure excavation work in proximity to an underground utility service was done according to the requirements of the utility service," WorkSafe BC said. "This was a high-risk violation."
WorkSafe BC issued a stop-work order, and the fine was imposed on May 23.
Kalco Contracting declined to comment on the penalty.
