Vehicles damaged in vandalism spree

Summerland RCMP are asking members of the public to come forward with any information that might lead to the discovery of culprits said to be responsible for damaging more than a dozen vehicle during what appears to have been a late night vandalism spree Sunday.

While RCMP have some leads, they would like to hear from anyone who might have witnessed anything related to the incidents, which damaged 15 vehicles and one travel trailer. One business on Kelly Avenue also reported a broken window.

"Because it happened in the early morning hours, we are trying to find witnesses, " said Sgt. Mona Kauffeld, who estimates that the damage exceed five figures.

"I would probably estimate (damages) around $15,000 and that might be on the high side," she said.

The incidents took place across Summerland with the majority outside the downtown core, said Kauffeld.  Areas included on and aroun Prairie Valley Road, Sinclair Road, Peach Orchard Road and Lakeshore Drive.

This spread might suggest that the offenders had access to a  vehicle, said Kauffeld.

Mischief of this kind happens for a number of reasons, said Kauffeld. Factors might include alcohol, boredom and lack of adult supervision, said Kauffeld.

Any one with information can contact the RCMP at (250) 494-7416 or 1-800-222-8447.
