Update: Truck driver escapes fiery crash near Okanagan Falls

A transport truck caught fire on Monday night causing Highway 97 from White Lake Road to Okanagan Falls to be shut down.

A transport truck hit the barrier on Waterman's Hill just north of Okanagan Falls and caught fire on Monday night.

UPDATE:

The lone female occupant of the 2011 freight liner truck which caught fire on Highway 97 south of Penticton around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 was uninjured and exited the vehicle before it was on fire, police said.

The truck, hauling apples, swerved to avoid hitting a deer before it turned on its side before becoming fully engulfed in flames, police said.

Update: Highway 97 between White Lake Road and Okanagan Falls was opened to one lane alternating traffic early Tuesday morning.

As of 7:30 a.m. the south bound moving lane and one lane of the north bound was open. One lane remains closed northbound as crews clean up debris and the shell of the burned out truck is still against the barrier.

A transport truck caught fire on Monday night causing Highway 97 from White Lake Road to Okanagan Falls to be shut down.

RCMP told the Penticton Western News that a transport truck was driving south on Waterman's Hill, hit a barrier and caught fire.

Traffic is being re-routed to Eastside Road and RCMP said they expect Highway 97 to be closed for some time yet.

According to DriveBC the road is estimated to re-open at midnight.
