UPDATE Sept. 28:
A crash on a busy stretch led police to a stolen vehicle.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to Highway 97 (32nd Street) in front of Denny’s Wednesday, Sept. 27, around 2:20 p.m.
A Ford Explorer travelling southbound on 32nd had collided head on with a Hyundai Accent travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver, and lone occupant of the Hyundai, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
“While interacting with the driver of the Ford, the investigating officer noticed signs consistent with drug impairment and the man was arrested,” said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer. “After further investigation, police also determined the Ford Explorer the suspect was driving had been stolen from a parking lot of a business in Vernon earlier in the day.”
Traffic on 32nd Street was reduced for a period of time to allow emergency personnel to safely complete their work.
A 37-year-old Vernon man remained in custody prior to a Thursday court appearance.
ORIGINAL Sept. 27:
Northbound lanes of Highway 97 in Vernon were closed due to a crash Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place on 32nd Street in front of the Sandman Inn.
DriveBC reports traffic was reduced to single-lane alternating traffic around 2:30 p.m.
The crash was cleared and traffic resumed to normal shortly after 4 p.m.
