Unfortunately, this Bambi story has a sad ending.
Penticton resident Tia Mueller tried to save the deer but reported that she found its body near the lake. She walked the KVR trail with a headlamp and found the remains.
Mueller said the deer had clearly been killed by other animals. Predators she believed chased the deer onto the ice in the first place.

Update: 6:11 p.m.
Kaleden Fire department reports they attended the scene but were unable to find the deer stuck on the ice.
According to a fire department spokesperson, volunteers walked along the KVR Trail for a distance, but found nothing and turned back when it became too dark to continue.

Conservation officers are heading to Skaha Lake to rescue a deer trapped on the ice.
The deer was spotted between OK Falls and Kaleden Friday afternoon, stuck on the lake's thin ice.
Penticton RCMP and BC Conservation Officers have been called and are reportedly headed to the scene.
A local resident who first spotted the deer left an arrow of rocks on the KVR trail to help rescuers find the animal on the dark ice.
