At 6:30 a.m., Wednesday March 2, the Penticton Lakeside Resort main parking lot will transform into a drive-thru experience like no other.
The 10th annual United Way South Okanagan Drive Thru Breakfast is back at the Lakeside Resort with all dollars raised invested directly in local programs and services from Penticton to Summerland all the way to Osoyoos.
In 2020, over $20,000 was raised and 900-plus breakfast bags were handed out to a constant stream of vehicles, in exchange for donations. The breakfast bags – loaded with edible treats, coupons for local businesses, and the chance to randomly win prizes – are typically valued at over $50 each.
In the South Okanagan region, United Way partnered with 40 community organizations and provided direct funding to 80 programs and initiatives.
“We also continued to work collaboratively with local changemakers on the 100 More Homes Penticton project, which has successfully housed 133 people and aims to end chronic homelessness in Penticton,” said a press release from United Way.
“We know there is still significant need in the South Okanagan community. The social and economic impacts of COVID-19, a devastating wildfire season, and a catastrophic flooding event are long-lasting. Our most vulnerable community members continue to face challenges in accessing housing, food, and mental health supports.”
The drive thru will be March 2 from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
