Transit shelter advertising approved

Transit buses still do not make scheduled stops at the bus shelters in Summerland, but advertising has now been approved for the large panels on the sides.

At the municipal council meeting on Jan. 9, council adopted an advertising policy for the shelters.

The panels, which measure 170 centimetres high by 116 centimetres wide, will be available for advertising at a rate of $250 per quarter for the outside panels and $125 per quarter for the inside panels.

Municipal treasurer Ken Ostraat said the fees collected from the advertising would go to the maintenance of the bus shelters.

The advertising space will be rented for a minimum period of three months.

The maximum term is one year, with the option to renew for a second year.

After that, availability will be based on demand.

The shelters were installed when the Rosedale Avenue and Prairie Valley Road upgrade work was done in 2010.

While plans for a regional transit service have been discussed, the service still does not exist.
