Todd Manuel named Okanagan Skaha School District superintendent

Manuel will take over the position of superintendent, currently occupied by Wendy Hyer, on August 1

School District 67 (Okanagan Skaha) today announced the hire of a new superintendent for the upcoming school year.

Effective August 1, 2020, Todd Manuel, previously assistant superintendent for SD67, will step into the role currently occupied by Wendy Hyer.

In November of last year Hyer announced that after 35 years working in public education she was going to step down, effective July 31. She has served the school district as superintendent since 2009.

Manuel believes his experience in SD43 (Coquitlam) and his 11 years already served with SD67 has helped prepare him for this new role.

He began with SD67 as a special education teacher, and prior to his appointment as assistant superintendent, held a dual role for one year serving as director of instruction with student support services, as well as principal of ConnectEd Learning Centre.

SD67 board chair James Palanio said hiring a superintendent is one of their “most critical” responsibilities.

“In selecting our superintendent, the board of education recognizes the outstanding leadership that Todd has provided within the district, his proven ability to collaborate and his record of strong, positive relationships with staff and the community,” said Palanio.
