Summerland’s building permits in February had a construction value of $4,451,000, according to statistics from the municipality.

The value of building permits for this month is the highest in at least five years, even though more permits have been issued in the past.

A total of 15 building permits were issued in February, down from 16 in the same month in 2021 and 23 in February 2019.

So far this year, Summerland has issued 33 building permits, with a total construction value of $8,779,000.

In January and February 2021, 38 permits were issued, with a construction value of $5,075,500.

In a report to Summerland council, Brad Dollevoet, director of development services, said 10 new planning and development applications were submitted in February, up from seven new applications in the same month a year earlier.

“Of note, only one Development Variance Permit has been submitted this year, suggesting most developers are able to fit their proposals into the current regulatory framework of the district without the need for a variance,” Dollevoet said.

The building permit statistics from January and February are continuing a trend from 2021, a 12-month period when 203 building permits with a total construction value of $59,775,300 were issued.
