Dirty Laundry Vineyard in Summerland will host an Olympic athlete on Friday evening.

On Aug. 10, the winery will honour Summerland bobsleigh athlete Justin Kripps for his contribution to sports.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, Kripps and Alexander Kopacz won gold in the two-man bobsleigh competition. The Canadian duo had a total time of 3:16.86 in four heats, tying them with a German team. A Latvian team took bronze with a time just 0.05 seconds from first place.

The medal finish was the second time in Olympic bobsleigh history that two gold medals were awarded for the same event.

“We were all watching with a great deal of interest as Justin was competing in the Olympics,” said Bob Campbell, president of the winery. “He’s pretty well the best bobsledder in the world.”

While the decision to host Kripps was made much earlier, the August date was selected to fit in with Kripps’ schedule.

At the winery event on Friday, Mayor Peter Waterman will make a presentation to Kripps on behalf of the municipality.

Music during the evening will be provided by Hellard and Hirth.

Tickets for the event are still available from the winery. The cost of admission includes pizza and a glass of wine.
