Summerland waterfront is getting a new restaurant

The now closed Local will be turned back into its former glory of the Shaughnessy’s Cove

The Summerland waterfront is getting a new restaurant.

Jesse Ritchie, who just bought the Gunbarrel Saloon at Apex Mountain, and is the owner of the Score Pub Group, has bought the now closed Local restaurant beside the Summerland Waterfront Resort.

He is bringing the property back to its former glory and turning it back to Shaughnessy’s Cove. That was the popular pub that was in there for more than 15 years before it turned into the Local lounge and grill restaurant.

“Hey Summerland. You may notice some paper on the windows of the Local by the Summerland Waterfront Resort….that’s because we are getting ready to start a major renovation to bring Shaughnessy’s Cove back to Summerland,” said Ritchie who took to several Facebook pages last night to make the announcement.

“It will be owned and operated by the people responsible for Score On Davie, Score on King and most recently Gunbarrel Saloon. We are in the beginning stages and will keep you updated on our new social media platforms in the coming days. Opening mid-May, 2021.”

The Local closed down around one year ago, leaving a hole in the limited dining opportunities in Summerland. The waterfront property that includes a shared dock and boat slips, has been for sale all this time.

The Local was a high-end fine dining establishment that was not catered to families. Two years ago, half the restaurant and half the patio was permanently closed for unknown reasons.

If the Shaughnessy’s Cove is anything like Ritchie’s other restaurants, it will offer family-friendly fun food that is approachable like burgers, wings and nachos.

Ritchie revamped the Gunbarrel Saloon, opening just before ski season. Reviews of the food and service have been phenomenal so far. Ritchie, a Summerland resident, is known for the legendary Caesar’s drink that is a meal onto itself, topped with mini burgers, onion rings or grilled cheese.
