There is nothing that brings Canadians together like hockey.
So when the Summerland U9 hockey team heard they were going to play Princeton on Sunday, the wheels started turning on how they could make a difference for the players and parents.
While the game provided the Princeton team and their families with a bit of normalcy and much-needed distraction, the devastation of the flooding weighed heavy on everyone’s mind.
The Summerland team and their parents collected and filled boxes full of essential items, food and water for the Princeton Posse team and presented it to them after the game.
The Summerland team didn’t stop there. They also provided a to-go lunch for after the game.
Penticton Sports Cards and Collectables owner Luke Yamamoto heard about the Princeton team coming to play in Summerland. He insisted on donating a generous amount of new hockey cards which were placed in the lunch bags.
Princeton has been in a state of emergency for over a week, facing major flooding, no heat in homes or cellphone service as well as ongoing infrastructure damage.
