Summerland is busy with construction, according to the most recent building permit statistics issued by the municipality.
From January to March, a total of 53 permits, with a total construction value of $6,888,000 have been issued. This is higher than the same period last year, when 38 permits worth $5,623,000 were issued.
“Building activity is continued at a strong pace for the first quarter of 2021. Total construction value and the number of permits to date is above that of 2020, which was a record year,” Brad Dollevoet, director of development services, said in a report to Summerland council.
He said staff are forecasting that building permit revenue will be above budgeted projections, in particular due to the submission of the Oasis luxury condominium development.
In March alone, Summerland issued 15 building permits, with a value of $1,812,500. This is slightly lower than the March 2020 figures, when 17 permits worth $2,139,000 were issued.
In March 2019, a total of 16 building permits, with a value of $12,741,000 were issued.
