Smoky skies in Penticton as crews attack fast-moving brush fire on KVR Trail

Smoke is visible from across the northeast side of the city

Penticton fire crews made quick work of a fast-moving brush fire on Wednesday, June 7, after it spread onto the KVR Trail by Vancouver Place.

At around 2:15 p.m., firefighters responded to multiple reports of a blaze in the area.

Smoke was visible from around the Penticton Art Gallery and Ellis Street, with crews using access from Lower Bench Road to attack the flames.

By 2:30 p.m., the fire had been considered “under control.”

It is not currently known what started the fire.

The blaze did not cross the KVR Trail, but it was close enough to homes that residents on Bankview Place were out spraying water to soak their yards.
