The 25th anniversary Rick Hansen Relay passed through Summerland and the rest of the Okanagan Valley last week.

The relay, which began in St. John’s, Nfld. in late August, is retracing the Canadian portion of the route followed by wheelchair athlete Rick Hansen during his Man In Motion tour 25 years ago.

Recreation director Dale MacDonald, the last of the relay participants in Summerland, said he was carrying the medal in honour of Arlie Young, who had repeatedly asked for better access to buildings in the community.

“All of our facilities are now handicap-accessible,” MacDonald said.
