The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen budget for 2022 will be nearly $1.7 million higher than the 2021 budget.
At a budget presentation during the regional district’s board meeting on Jan. 6, the total taxation requests for 2022 came to $22,162,567. This is an increase of 8.27 per cent from the 2021 budget of $20,468,966.

The taxation requests are for the communities of Penticton, Summerland, Princeton, Oliver, Osoyoos and Keremeos, the Penticton Indian Band and nine electoral areas.
Princeton’s requisition, at $106,528, represents a decrease of 0.74 per cent. The Penticton Indian Band’s requisition, at $83,811 is a decrease of 18.22 per cent from 2021.
All other communities and electoral areas have an increase in requisitions.
Penticton’s amount rose by 5.23 per cent from $2,165,761 last year to $2,278,956 this year. Summerland’s increase, from $813,128 to $875,479, is an increase of 7.67 per cent.
In Oliver, the requisition increased by 4.7 per cent, from $1,557,165 last year to $1,630,324 this year. The requisition for Osoyoos rose by 4.96 per cent from $902,985 last year to $947,814 this year. The increase for Keremeos rose by 8.64 per cent, from $507,433 to $551,271.
The amounts given for the nine electoral areas account for $15,688,383 this year, an increase of 9.61 per cent from last year’s $14,312,695.
The board gave first reading to the regional district budget. Public engagement will take place, through in-person or electronic meetings, and budget videos will be presented for each electoral area.
The budget will come back to the board for second reading on Feb. 17. The third reading and adoption of the budget are planned for March 3.
