A new director has been appointed to represent Electoral Area C within the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

Irwin Chahal has been appointed to fill the role following the death of Rick Knodel, who had earlier served as the director for the area. Chahal had been the alternate director.

According to the Local Government Act, the alternate director holds the office following the death of the director until the next election for the office.

Chahal signed his oath of office for the area on Jan. 9. The next general local election in the province is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026.

Knodel also was an appointee to the Southern Interior Municipal Employees Association and the Okanagan Basin Water Board, and was the chair of the regional district’s planning and development committee.
