As a lead up to June, recognized as Pride month, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) announced it will consider amendments to its Official Recognition Policy later in the year.
Belisa Edgerly, president of the South Okanagan Similkameen Pride Society, addressed the district’s corporate services committee Thursday, May 19 to update the group on Pride month activities.
Pride kicks off for the society June 4, 7 p.m. in Penticton, at the Dream Cafe.
RDOS chair Mark Pendergraft issued a release suggesting community members can celebrate and show support by hanging a Pride flag, making a donation to a local 2SLGBTQIA+ group, or volunteering.
“By showing support to 2SLGBTQIA+ people, the RDOS is helping create a positive and resilient community,” stated Pendergraft. “Pride Month is also a reminder that all RDOS facilities, parks, and trails are inclusive, safe spaces.”
