RCMP have busy start to year

The RCMP’s Targeted Enforcement Unit were busy in the first week of 2019 making several arrests in the South Okanagan.

“The TEU continues their focus on those in our community who pose the highest risk to public safety, and the few offenders who commit the majority of property and drug related offences,” said Const. James Grandy, media relations officer in a release.

Officers with the TEU conducted several operations in and around specific motels in the southern end of Penticton, resulting in two individuals being arrested on outstanding warrants.

On Jan. 2, the TEU arrested a female on outstanding warrants out of Summerland for failing to comply with her probation order. Also on Jan. 2, the unit arrested Bradley Thompson, age 46, on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court.

While being searched incidental to his arrest, Thompson was found in possession of suspected cocaine and methamphetamine. Charges of possessing controlled substances and breaching his recognizance are being recommended to the B.C. Prosecution Service.

On Jan. 3, TEU officers conducting surveillance in Okanagan Falls observed Jeremy Hargreaves, age 39, who had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, driving along Maple Street.

When officers directed Hargreaves to pull over, he reversed and rammed a police vehicle then sideswiped another before crashing into a nearby fence. A foot pursuit ensued with TEU officers successfully arresting Hargreaves, who now faces numerous charges of assaulting and flight from police along with his outstanding warrants.
