Provincial parks near Summerland and Penticton are receiving infrastructure upgrades worth $150,000.

Provincial parks near Summerland and Penticton are receiving infrastructure upgrades worth $150,000.

The south side of Okanagan Lake Provincial Park received a campground upgrade worth $100,000, which includes a new playground.

The upgrade also included a new toilet and shower building, a new host site, relocated service yard and septic upgrades.

Much of the work was completed last summer, but the final landscaping and furniture replacement was completed this month.

The province is also spending $50,000 at Myra-Bellevue Provincial Park north of Naramata.

The work here includes structural improvements on the trestles of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, stabilization of the trestle supports and an assessment and mitigation of rockfall hazards.

The work is expected to be finished in November.

“These projects will give visitors to these popular parks a more positive experience,” said Dan Ashton, MLA for the riding of Penticton.

“New and improved amenities and safer structures are part of our government’s goal of maintaining our provincial parks to first-rate standards.”

Over the past five years, the province has invested around $60 million in park facilities.

Last year, more than $13 million was spent in facility and capital projects in parks across the province.
