A Princeton man who had previously asked a judge to view a photo of his hernia has been sentenced to serve 72 days in jail.

In Penticton court on April 19, Jesse Lawrence Edward Williams, 39, was sentenced for multiple instances of driving while prohibited.

The charges of assault and uttering threats that were scheduled for sentencing on April 19, were not resolved during his appearance in Penticton, and Williams will be appearing for those charges in Princeton Court on May 19.

His April 19 court date also served as his first appearance for fresh charges of assault, theft under $5,000 and a breach of an undertaking.

Williams had previously been set to appear for sentencing on April 14, which ended up being adjourned when he had initially claimed to have been too ill for court. During that appearance, he had offered to show the judge a photo of his hernia but was refused by the judge.

According to previous arguments from the Crown counsel, sentencing had been delayed multiple times before, with Williams usually indicating that he was in ill-health as reason for the delays.

At one point his mother appeared in his stead, explaining that Williams was too sick to attend.

With no time spent in custody ahead of sentencing, Williams will have the full 72 days to spend in jail. He also received a two-year driving ban.
