Playground funding reimbursed

Christmas came early for the Giant’s Head Elementary School Parent Advisory Council as the province reimbursed the cost of playground equipment. The funding, sent last week, was for $25,272, which covers the cost of the equipment.

It is part of a $2.4 million given by the province to reimburse parent advisory councils throughout the province for playground equipment purchases.

School districts had been asked to identify schools which had purchased adventure-style playground equipment since Jan. 1 for the program.

“This funding will help Giant’s Head students stay healthy and have a lot more fun,” said MLA Bill Barisoff.

“From health from active living to developing team and social skills, playgrounds are integral to early development in students.”

The funding is part of $8 million over two years, announced in September, for new playgrounds and playground upgrades.

Each parent advisory council was eligible for up to $50,000, depending on how much they contributed to the project.
