Penticton Track and Field Club show strong at provincial championships

Eight medals won at BC Junior Development competition in Surrey

Penticton’s young athletes performed well with 19 top eight finishes and eight medals in Surrey over the weekend.

Eight of the Penticton Track and Field Club’s nine to 13-year-old members travelled to the Lower Mainland to compete at the BC Junior Development Provincial Track and Field Championships.

The club is still in its first year, and the athletes represented themselves, their city and their coaches with strong performances.

The boys’ finishes are below:

Sebastian Osiowy brought home the Gold Medal in the 800 and 1200 metre.

Michael Hvidston took Silver in the pentathlon and finished sixth in the 60 metre and 600 metre.

Nicholas Hayden took the Bronze in the 600 and 1000 Metre.

Tyler Hvidston took Bronze in the pole vault, sixth place in the 80 metre hurdles and seventh in the 200 metre hurdles, 800 metre and the high jump.

Marek Osiowy finished 25th in the 100 metre.

The girls also had strong performances in the weekend’s competition.

Yvonne Hayden took home the Silver in the 1000 metre, and fifth place in the 600.

Zara Buckingham earned the Bronze in the 60 metre, and finished fifth in 100 metre and seventh in the 60.

Kiana Buckingham finished fifth in the discus and javelin, and 11th in the shot put.

Miles Hayden from Penticton will also be going on to represent the Penticton Track and Field Club at the BC Summer Games in Prince George from July 21 to 24.
