A plan that would see a three-storey townhome built in a core area of Penticton will be presented to city council this Tuesday.

There won’t be any shortage of housing talk on July 19 when council meets for its regular bi-weekly meeting, with the proposal of a four-unit, three-storey townhouse development on 561 Jermyn Avenue among the items.

The townhouse, located off of Government Street just east of Penticton Secondary School, will be “modest in size” and provide much-needed family housing in a key area of the city, according to the applicant.

Access to the property is from Bird Street, with the project set to provide a total of seven parking spaces as a result of the development.

“A concern was raised that vehicles may attempt to park in front of the garage doors (on Bird Street) and hang over the street, creating a safety concern,” city staff wrote to council.

Staff’s concerns have since been minimized, after working with the applicant and altering the location of the building to the west.

Each unit will feature a two-vehicle garage from Bird Street and three additional visitor spots off the rear lane.

Council will be prompted on Tuesday to send the project to a public hearing, scheduled for Aug. 16.
