Penticton RCMP officers who were patrolling the downtown core on July 22, spotted a stolen vehicle, which led to the arrest of a local man and the seizure of illicit drugs.

Inside the stolen vehicle was allegedly 36-year-old Derek Thomas Johnson. In conjunction with Kelowna’s Target Enforcement Unit, officers were able to safely arrest Johnson.

While officers were arresting him, they discovered he was allegedly in possession of a large quantity of illicit drugs, indicative of drug trafficking.

Johnson is set to appear in a Penticton Provincial Court on Sept. 29 on charges of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
