A local litigator and dispute resolution lawyer has returned to the campaign trail, eyeing a seat on Penticton city council.

After a strong showing in her first-ever public office run during the 2021 by-election, Amelia Boultbee has announced her intentions to run in the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 15.

“Crime and safety, housing affordability and economic diversity are the cornerstones of Amelia’s election platform and she is a strong advocate for responsible development,” Boultbee’s campaign wrote in a press release. “Amelia believes the biggest issue in the election will be crime reduction, as well as fiscal responsibility at City Hall.”

Born and raised in Penticton, Boultbee currently works at a law firm where she represents clients in business, corporate/commercial disputes, insurance, personal injury and family law.

Along with sitting on the board of the Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce and the Penticton and Area Co-operative Enterprise, Boultbee says she is a vocal advocate for access to justice, as well as for legal pro bono.

“If elected, Amelia will bring the same scrutiny to spending and management at City Hall as she brings to the courtroom, and will bring a young and fresh perspective to Penticton,” her campaign added.

Out of the 10 people who ran for a councillor’s seat in the 2021 by-election, Boultbee finished fourth.

Though the fourth-generation Pentictonite has not officially filed her nomination papers, it is expected that she will on or before Friday, Sept. 9.

Boultbee states on her website she’s the new voice city council needs while complex issues of poverty, addiction and homelessness are grappled with.
