The Penticton Curling Club is looking to make some much-needed upgrades to its facility and on Tuesday, July 5, they’ll be asking the city for help.
As part of a grant request, the club is also looking for a loan from the city to help cover an upgrade project that could cost up to $200,000.
Potential upgrades to the building — located at 505 Vees Drive — include improvements to the electrical panel, carpeting and its washrooms.
“There is much activity underway within the North Gateway and the Curling Club is an important part of the future of this area,” representatives from the city wrote to council.
According to a request sent to the city, the club is seeking a loan of $50,000 to $60,000 or two loans of $30,000 to help cover the costs of the project.
If approved by council on Tuesday, the city will enter into an interest-free loan with the curling club for building upgrades, to be repaid at $1,500 per month.
Leaders from the curling group will ask for the loan at the Committee of the Whole meeting before city staff proposes to renew a new 10-year lease agreement with the club later in the day.
