Over 10,000 Easter eggs will be up for grabs this Monday with the return of the ninth annual Easter Fun Day.

Organized through LocoLanding Adventure Park, all of the proceeds from the event go to the OSNS Child and Youth Development Centre.

Up to 450 kids will go out in waves searching for the prize-filled, plastic eggs that will be hidden in the bushes, trees and on the surrounding grounds outside of the park.

“I think the importance of the Easter Fun Day, the biggest thing is that it is accessible to everybody,” said Meg Dimma, OSNS community engagement co-ordinator. “It’s $5 a child and people can register right at the event. It’s a fun way for kids to celebrate Easter amongst their peers with other families in a community environment.

“A lot of the sponsoring businesses are doing this out of the kindness of their own hearts, it’s just a lot of fun.”

In addition to the hunt, the Easter bunny will be making a special appearance again this year as well as a visit from a Penticton Fire Department truck.

“There will be work stations where kids can make their own bunny ears, a barbecue and other things, so fun for the whole family,” said Dimma.

She also expressed her appreciation for the efforts of LocoLanding owner Diana Stirling for putting on the event.

“Diana has been running this for the most part for the last nine years and it’s really awesome of her to bring all of her volunteers,” said Dimma. “The other thing is all the proceeds come back to OSNS which is a very important component of the fun day because we rely heavily on fundraising.”

That translates into several thousand dollars a year for the centre.

“LocoLanding is really proud to be hosting the Easter egg event annual and we participate to provide a low-cost Easter activity for families in Penticton so all of the proceeds can go to OSNS,” said Stirling. “It has grown over the years and we’re so happy to see that growth.”

And as for the volunteers, this year there will be a record number of young people, 75, who will be working the fun day.

“We could not do it without the support of those teens and that’s why 100 per cent of the proceeds, including all the activities in LocoLanding, 100 per cent of the proceeds, go to OSNS,” she said.

The nine park activities operating that day include go-karts, high-level ropes course, rock climbing, monkey motion and mini golf.

Participants should bring their own basket to collect the eggs and the day runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tickets are available at the park located at 75 Riverside Dr.
