Oliver Fire had to put out two abandoned grass fires on Wednesday.

Around 3 p.m., after just mopping up the first grass fire and returning back to the station, firefighters were called out again to Old River Road for a blaze.

Around 1 p.m., Oliver fire crews were called to a small grass fire in Nk’Nip Road and Area 27. The fire was contained to an area of 50 by 100 feet.

A reminder to everyone doing any type of burning or grassland mitigation is to never leave a fire unattended and always have a water source available in case a fire gets out of hand,” said Oliver fire spokesperson Rob Graham.

In Summerland, fire crews there had to put out a campfire that burned out of control on Tuesday. The campfire was left and got out of control. Eight firefighters and a water tender took about an hour to put out that blaze.
