Expect to be cold and that there’s some Vitamin C.

Environment Canada’s prediction for snow has been pushed back a day so put away your shovels. Throughout the Okanagan and Shuswap, it’s a sweater-weather kind of day— a pink sweater, for anti bullying.

First thing’s first, today’s forecast:

In Penticton there will be increasing cloudiness with a high -2C. The wind chill -14 C in the morning and -6 C in the afternoon.

In Kelowna the forecast is for a mix of sun and cloud. The high will be -3 C. Wind chill -17 C.

In Salmon Arm it will be mainly sunny with a high temperature of - 3 C.

In Vernon the forecast is sunny and around -3 C, but there’s also a dust warning.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, in collaboration with the Interior Health Authority, has issued a Dust Advisory for Vernon due to high concentrations of coarse particulates, which are expected to persist until there is a change in current weather conditions.

Persons with chronic underlying medical conditions should postpone strenuous exercise until the advisory is lifted. Staying indoors and in air-conditioned spaces helps to reduce particulate exposure. Exposure is particularly a concern for infants, the elderly and those who have diabetes, and lung or heart disease.

Tonight: The nighttime low around the valley expected to average around -12 C.

Will the sun come out tomorrow?: Nope. There’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries and loads of cloud.

On the roads: There are no highway alerts in effect however crews are still working to clear the rock slide on Highway 97, but the road at the site remains closed and a detour is still in place.

Steve Sirett, district manager, transportation with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, said the ministry now expects to have the highway open early next week.

The Callan Road detour remains open.

If you’re one of those who are travelling over the William R Bennett bridge, here’s some insight into that traffic. Use this quick and easy link to access the bridge cam.

Fun fact: Did you watch the Oscars? After more than 30 years and some two dozen films, Spike Lee received his first Academy Award nomination for best director for “BlacKkKlansman.” It’s also the first time one of his movies has been nominated for best picture.

Need something to daydream about? We have some great snapshots of life around the valley.
