While Penticton city employees will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 beginning in January, no such requirement is in place for Summerland’s municipal staff.

Graham Statt, chief administrative officer for the municipality of Summerland, said informal conversations with staff suggest well above 80 per cent of the 102 municipal employees have received vaccines against COVID-19.

He added that the municipality is not planning a vaccination mandate similar to that in Penticton. Instead, a communicable disease policy is in place. The policy is working effectively.

Municipal workplaces include municipal hall, the public works building, the water treatment plant, the wastewater treatment plant and the recreation facilities.

The municipality has also provided space in public buildings for community vaccination clinics.

Those staff members who wish to be vaccinated will be given paid time off for vaccine appointments.
