The Summerland Legion will receive $500 from the municipality to assist with the costs of holding a Canada Day celebration.
John Dorn, president of the legion, asked council for the funding at the June 11 meeting.
He said last year the Legion received funding from the Summerland Merchants’ Association, but the funding is not available this year.
Even with the funding, the Legion lost $150 after the costs of providing lunch for Canada Day.
Around 500 people, many of them youths, attended.
A resolution to approve $500 for the event was carried unanimously.
Coun. Bruce Hallquist was not present at the council meeting.
