There will be a competition for the mayor’s seat in Keremeos this election.
Councillor Jason Wiebe has filed his nomination papers to run for the seat that will be left open after current Mayor Manfred Bauer retires.
Wiebe told the Review that he was proud of his time on council and all of the work that he was part of, including bringing LED lighting and electric charging stations, upgrades to the community pool, the new fire truck for the Keremeos fire station, planning and work on roads and the work that is now underway on the wastewater treatment plant.
He also stated that if elected he planned to continue work advocating for the community’s library, as well as working with the provincial government on matters like housing.
“I fully intend to keep up the fight for our local library, our rural libraries need a different funding model, because they are a central point of a small community,” said Wiebe.

With his challenge for the mayor’s chair, Wiebe will be leaving an open seat at the council table.
In addition, councillor Sherry Philpott-Adhikary is not planning to run for re-election in 2022.
This leaves two currently occupied seats at Keremeos council confirmed without incumbents.
Coun. Arden Holly has filed his papers to run for re-election, while coun. Jeremy Evans has not made his decision known one way or the other.
Anyone interested in contributing to the community, and directing growth and policy, can do so by filing their nomination papers at the Keremeos Village Office until Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.
