Five community groups in the region, including two from Summerland, have received gaming grants from the provincial government.

The grants were distributed earlier this month.

The St. John Society’s Penticton Branch, the Penticton Safety Village Society and the Penticton and District Emergency Program Society each received $20,000.

The Friends of the Summerland Research Station Gardens and Critteraid each received $15,000.

“This gaming funding will help support the many volunteers who donate time, effort and energy to provide a variety of different services that enhance our community,” said MLA Bill Barisoff.

Across the province, 101 recipients will share in $1,861,891 in the latest round of gaming grants.

Over the past 12 months, the province has distributed $135 million in gaming grants.

Around 6,000 community groups throughout the province have benefitted from the funding.
