The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is applying for funding for the restoration of the Naramata Museum.
The application is for a $100,950 grant from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund for the project. The grant would provide 50 per cent of the restoration project.

The Naramata Museum has operated at 214 Robinson Ave. since 1997. The building is a former firehall owned by the regional district that was converted into the museum.
The grant would allow the museum to renovate in order to operate year-round. Currently, the museum only runs from May to September, closing in the winter due to poor insulation.
The building also does not have an accessible washroom, a fire alarm system or a security system.
A building evaluation was conducted in May, 2019 and determined the issues with the building would require at least $75,000, excluding climate control, consultant and contingency fees.
The funding, if approved, would cover half the costs of the project. The remaining $50,475 would come from the Electoral Area E Community Gas Tax fund.
