The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has given first three readings to a bylaw to provide funding to the Eastgate Fire Protection Society.

The bylaw is for $20,000 from the Electoral Area H Community Works Reserve (Gas Tax) fund.

The fire protection society requested this amount to provide funding assistance for the purchase of fire hose, folding water tanks and a water pump. These are the final pieces of equipment needed to provide water for structure protection on Thistle Road and Lupine Road, on the Eastgate hillside. The protection is needed for an interface wildfire event.

As of Dec. 31. the reserve fund had $619,073, of which $418,691 had been committed to the end of 2025.

Eastgate is a smal community along Highway 3 just outside the eastern border of Manning Provincial Park. It is within an interface fire area.
