Firefighting tools donated to camp near Summerland

Dowler worked to create barrier-free camp west of Summerland

An Okanagan family has donated tools to the Agur Lake Camp Society, in order to keep the camp safe during the wildfire season.

The donation was made by the Dowler family, in partnership with KMS Tools and Equipment and DeWalt Tools and Equipment, both of Red Deer, Alta.

The tools will be used for wildfire mitigation at the camp.

Enabling the camp to remain a safe, barrier-free oasis for people of all ages with various disabilities is important to Bonnar Dowler.

Dowler founded the camp after losing his son Mark to a heart condition at six months of age.

He envisioned the camp as a place where people with diverse abilities could spend time in nature fishing, walking in the woods, playing games and connecting with others.

His goal of starting the camp began in 1974. Today, the camp has three cabins, paved paths, a fishing dock and a lake stocked with trout.
