As the closure of Highway 97 continues, the effects of the rock slide are reaching far beyond the immediate area.

The Town of Osoyoos announced this morning the recycling centre at the Osoyoos and District Sanitary Landfill is temporarily closed. The bins are full and Planet Earth is unable to get trucks through the closure to pick them up.

The recycling centre is normally open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday, collecting household recycling as well as yard and garden waste.

The first rockslide, just north of Summerland on Highway 97, came down Jan. 31, followed by a second on Feb. 2, which prompted the Ministry of Highways to close the route to traffic.
