The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has rescinded the first and second readings of an Official Community Plan amendment bylaw and a zoning amendment bylaw for a development proposal north of Summerland.
The readings were rescinded and the bylaws were abandoned at the Dec. 2 regional district board meeting.
The development would have been located next to the Okanagan Lake Provincial Park, which raised concerns that led to the third reading being voted down after a public hearing on Oct. 21.

Earlier, the regional district had been considering the changes in order to allow a medium-density residential development with 106 dwelling units in eight terraced apartment structures. The proposed development had been named Diamonds.
The bylaws had been given first two readings in September.
The decision to formally rescind and abandon the bylaws was done so there would be no confusion about their status in the future.
The site is more than 10 kilometres north of Summerland, near Greata Ranch and Okanagan Lake Provincial Park. Concerns earlier had been raised about water resources, the need to extend Summerland’s sewer to service the development and the potential for infill and urban sprawl as a result of the development.
