The number of new COVID-19 cases in Penticton rose again over the week of Oct. 3 to 9, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.
The South Okanagan saw the number of cases per week rise from 74 over the week of Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 up to 93 over the most recent week.
Cases rose most in Penticton, going from 48 over Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 to 63 over the most recent week.
Keremeos’ local health area also saw a substantial increase from one case over Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 up to seven cases Oct. 3 to 9.

Cases in the neighbouring Princeton local health report no new cases.
Summerland recorded a drop, going from three cases to one.
The Southern Okanagan local health area, stretching from Okanagan Falls to the border, did see cases rise slightly from 20 over Sept. 26 to Oct. 2 up to 22 over the most recent week.

In Penticton, four deaths have been recorded in long-term care facility outbreaks since Oct. 29; three at Village by the Station and one at Haven Hill.
Multiple elementary schools across districts 53 and 67 had potential COVID exposures listed on the Interior Health website including at Similkameen Elementary Secondary School in Keremeos. Osoyoos and Oliver elementary schools and Queen’s Park Elementary in Penticton have also had recent exposures.
A potential exposure is declared when a member of that school’s community has tested positive for COVID-19.
