It’s hockey night in Penticton for a great cause March 4 as Penticton’s RCMP Cops team and a combined student/teacher squad from Princess Margaret Secondary do battle starting at 6 p.m. at Memorial Arena.

Jackson Wrigglesworth, a grade 10 student at Maggie, is organizing the event as a fundraiser for the school’s ongoing support work in Tanzania.

Each year since 2010 students from Maggie, Summerland and Penticton secondary schools have taken part in a three-week humanitarian trip to Arusha, Tanzania.

The purpose of the travel is to build a infrastructure at the camp Joshua and camp Moses orphanages which are home to over 100 children from just a few months old to 16 years.

To date they have constructed a classroom, dormitory, library, kitchen and dinning hall.

In addition while they’re there, local students also work at the orphanages cooking, doing laundry and some classroom work with the children.

The students and teachers going this summer will be completing work on the dinning hall roof.

Entry to the game is by donation with all monies going towards this summer’s trip to the orphanage.
