Building permit activity also remains active, according to municipal statistics.

In May, 20 permits, with a construction value of $4,056,000 had been received. During the same month in 2020, 12 permits, worth $1,650,000 had been issued.

In June, 19 building permits with a total construction value of $2,316,500 had been issued. In June 2020, 16 permits, worth $3,472,500 had been issued.

In the first half of this year, a total of 113 building permits, with a value of $16,901,000 have been issued. This is up from 82 permits with a construction value of $13,514,300 issued in the first six months of 2020.

The activity has occurred despite record prices for lumber and other building materials, Brad Dollevoet, director of development services said in a report to council.

“Once these prices start to fall we can expect more applications being submitted,” he said.

So far, 2020 is the second most active year for the number of building permits issued. The busiest year was 2019, when 120 permits were issued in the first half of the year.
