Keremeos’ council gave early approval for some budget items in order to get the projects underway by spring.
Council approved $209,622 in items on their Tuesday, Feb. 16 meeting.
The village already has received the grant funds necessary for $190,947 of the approved pre-budget expenses, with the remaining $18,675 coming out of the village’s equipment reserve.

The pre-approval was necessary in order to get the equipment and items by the time spring arrived, so that work could begin as soon as possible.
One of those items was a new lift station pump to replace the current one.
Completion of the village’s pocket park with additional seating and screening for shade received $18,991 in COVID-19 grant funding, while raised beds and planting for a community garden received $16,707.
The village office’s alarm systems will be getting an upgrade for $43,004, as well as $38,040 in AV equipment to upgrade virtual meetings in the council chambers.

A new dike accessibility ramp will be coming, with the $50,275 funded with a COVID-19 grant.
The lift station pump replacement and a new mower will be coming out of the village’s equipment reserve.
The budget underwent an adjustment during the council meeting, with final approval of the budget after any further changes to come in March.
