After some technical difficulties the first time around, the City of Vernon is getting back to work on revitalizing the rainbow crosswalk on 30th Avenue.
The first step in the process is to remove the existing paint to provide a clean surface for the new markings, which the city attempted to do May 11, but found the asphalt surface “was not in a condition what would allow for a successful re-application,” Ian Adkins, manager of roads, drainage and airport said May 12.
“The surface will need to be replaced under the crosswalk before new markings can be re-applied,” Adkins said.
The city is now taking another crack at working on the asphalt, according to a press release issued Tuesday, May 30.
A temporary detour on 30th Avenue between 33rd and 34th streets will be in effect Thursday, June 1, between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Application of the new crosswalk markings is tentatively set for June 14, weather dependent. People are asked to follow all detour and traffic control personnel.
“The city apologizes for any inconvenience this disruption may cause and appreciates everyone’s cooperation while the work is being completed,” the city said.
