Starting today, Jan. 6, almost all of the City of Penticton’s staff are fully vaccinated.
The city instituted a vaccine mandate that required confirmation or requests for accommodation by Jan. 4. All of city council and 99 per cent of the city’s 331 staff members have complied with the policy.
Over the next few weeks, those who aren’t in compliance, or have filed their requests, will be reviewed by the city. After the reviews, anyone who isn’t fully vaccinated or doesn’t have an approved accommodation plan will not be permitted to report in at any city facility or worksite.
“Employee and public safety has been a top priority throughout the pandemic and this policy is an additional measure to help ensure city workplaces, staff and the public are as safe as possible,” said the city’s acting general manager of finance and administration Angela Campbell. “These are extraordinary circumstances and we were very pleased to see the level of compliance with the policy.”
