There’s three reasons to raise your glass at Slackwater Brewing this weekend.
A fundraiser that supports women in need, hard-of-hearing individuals and a local dental-care fund returns to Penticton this weekend after a two-year hiatus.
The brewery hosts Cheers for Ears on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., for a night full of food, music, silent auctions and more. Local singer Aiden Mayes headlines the musical performances.
Organized by the Quota International of Penticton Service Club, proceeds from the event will support the aforementioned causes, with South Okanagan Women In Need Society among the recipients.
This Thanksgiving weekend, organizers are suggesting those in attendance donate $10 at the door. Prior to the pandemic, Cheers for Ears would raise between $2,000 and $3,000 in one night, according to Maureen Taylor current board member and previous president of Quota.
Mayes, meanwhile, is a solo artist who spent time pursuing her career in Victoria before recently returning back home to Penticton. She currently runs a local music school that helps adults learn how to play the guitar and ukulele.
The singer is expected to provide the night’s music while people partake in a silent auction and 50/50 draw.
Along with providing hearing equipment and funds for both women in need and those who struggle to afford dental care, one of Quota’s latest mandates calls upon raising awareness on the causes of hearing loss and how kids can protect their ears. The group stays in touch with schools across the region about its awareness campaigns, they added.
“Saturday is really important,” Taylor said. “It would mean a lot if people could come out, have fun, learn more about us and support a great cause.”
Quota has operated in Penticton and West Kelowna since September 1984 and previously provided the annual pancake breakfast at Peach Fest and local Canada Day events.
