Chamber to elect five new directors

Nominations are open for 2012 board of directors of the Summerland Chamber of Economic Development and Tourism.

Five directors will be elected at the annual general meeting March 13.

Nomination forms are available at the Summerland Chamber office at 15600 Hwy. 97 and must be turned in by Feb. 24. A candidate must be a current Summerland business licence holder.

Each nomination must include a brief biography including relevant experience and how that experience will benefit Summerland business. Submissions need to be suitable for distribution. All candidates must attend both a meet the candidate function and the annual general meeting.

Board members are responsible for setting goals and direction to ensure the financial health of the organization and to develop policies and procedures to guide staff.

The manager and staff are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the chamber and the Summerland Visitor Information Centre.

A director can expect to devote approximately eight to 12 hours a month to meetings, programs, and duties of the chamber.

Attendance at board meetings is mandatory.
