Carpooling gaining popularity in area

Summerlanders discovered an online carpooling network for the region during Carpool Week in late October.

Summerlanders discovered an online carpooling network for the region during Carpool Week in late October.

Julie McGuire, climate action coordinator for Summerland, said the number of Summerlanders using the service at Carpool.ca more than doubled in October.

On Oct. 1, only 12 Summerlanders were registered with the service but by Nov. 1, that figure had risen to 29 people.

While 29 people still represents just a small fraction of all Summerlanders, McGuire said the increase is encouraging.

“There are a few people in the community who have a real enthusiasm for it,” she said.

The Carpool.ca service is intended to connect people with carpools in their area.
