Borrowing approved for ice resurfacer at Osoyoos arena

Cost of equipment estimated at $170,000 with $110,000 in borrowing needed

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will borrow up to $110,000 for the purchase of an ice resurfacer for the Osoyoos Sun Bowl Arena.

The borrowing was approved at the regional district board meeting on April 21.

The current machine at this arena is nearing is life expectancy at around 15 years. The existing unit will be kept as a backup and as a second unit as needed.

The new electric ice resurfacer has an estimated cost of $170,000. The town of Osoyoos will contribute $45,000 and the Electoral Area A gas tax contributiion is $15,000, leaving $110,000 to be borrowed from the Municipal Finance Authority. The debt servicing cost over five years is estimated at $22,132.
